Everyday we are being spoilt. An example is yesterday we were saying how much we love the saucijzenbroodjes (sausage rolls) over here so our surprise this morning was Maikel had bought two for us to share at breakfast. Maikel and Rose are the consummate hosts and have made our time in Enkhuizen very special.

This morning we visited Jan and Riet for morning coffee before taking a drive around the local countryside. We drove past Medemblik to a small rural town called Twist. It was very beautiful little town with old farm houses and a small canal running alongside the main road. Whilst it was cold and windy the sun had come out and we were wishing we had brought our sunnies.

We had a bit of rain at lunchtime but it cleared this afternoon so we took the opportunity to have another walk around Enkhuizen. This time we took about 2 hours and did a big loop around town. Starting at the harbour we got a view back across to the Drommedaris, the sun was out so it was looking resplendent in the afternoon sun. We then walked back through the Snouck Van Loosen Park, down to Davidstraat where dad was born, around past Tante Marie’s old home as well as Rose and Maikels old home then we criss crossed the canals and laneways back around to the other side of the Drommedaris. After that it was back into the town centre to buy some flowers for Rose. I must mention as well that we found a home where some Tol’s live too, it’s great that many homes have the names of the owners displayed at their home.

Tonight we dined at Jan and Riets and we had such a great night. Riet cooked a traditional Dutch meal of vegetable soup, blinds vink with vegetables and advocaat and ice cream for dessert. Today was a day best described as gezellig.

Sadly we have to leave for Amsterdam tomorrow as we have had the greatest time relaxing and enjoying the hospitality and company of Rose and Maikel over the last few days. Our trip is quickly coming to an end, this time next Sunday we will be home with Oscar and Missy.
